Parental Guidance And Musical Exposure
Maisie Peters grew up in a small town near Brighton, England, with her twin sister, Ellen.
While neither of her parents pursued careers in music, they fostered an environment that encouraged Maisie’s musical interests.
“I guess none of my family are musical really,” Peters admits.
“My Dad got kicked out of recorder club as a child, very tone deaf vibes! But they both loved music, my Dad would go to gigs all the time, I would go to gigs with him, he would buy me CDs, both my parents really love music.”
This early exposure to diverse musical genres, from ABBA and Meat Loaf to Lily Allen and British girl bands, played a crucial role in shaping Maisie’s eclectic musical tastes and songwriting abilities.
Maisie’s parents not only exposed her to music but also actively supported her burgeoning passion.
Her father, Nick, bought her first guitar when she began showing a keen interest in music around the age of 12 or 13.
“Soon, she’d play songs she was working on to Mom in the living room, fielding honest feedback, or study the likes of Sheeran (particularly ‘Lego House’ and ‘The A Team’), Taylor Swift, and Lily Allen in her bedroom.”
Additionally, Maisie’s father would supervise her busking sessions on the streets of Brighton, providing her with valuable performance experience and opportunities to hone her craft.
A Close-Knit Family Bond
Maisie Peters’ family, including her twin sister, Ellen, have maintained a close-knit relationship, even as the young singer-songwriter’s career has taken off.
She has described her sister as her “polar opposite,” but the two have become closer as adults.
Her strong familial ties are evident in her social media posts, where she frequently pays tribute to her mother, Diane Millis, a communications professional with expertise in sustainability and climate change.
“Happy Mother’s Day to the absolute baddest there is,” Maisie wrote in a recent Instagram post, showcasing the deep appreciation she has for her mother’s support.
