Cleveland’s First Women’s Sports Bar to Celebrate Female Athletes and Fans

Highlights
  • Cleveland is launching its first women’s sports bar called The “W” Sports Bar, created by three women’s sports fans: Ally Eclarin, Cassy Kopp, and Shelley Pippin, to provide a consistent space for fans to rally and support women’s sports.
  • While no active women’s sports teams exist in Cleveland, the bar will showcase women’s sports games alongside local professional teams like the Guardians and Cavaliers, demonstrating a commitment to comprehensive sports coverage.
  • The bar’s owners are planning to create a welcoming atmosphere with a menu featuring local Ohio beers, breweries, and inclusive food options like vegetarian and gluten-free dishes, aiming to attract sports enthusiasts and potentially serve as a primary venue for future local women’s sports teams.

Cleveland, the city that has already been hosting three major league professional sports, the Cleveland Browns, the Cleveland Guardian, and the Cleveland Cavaliers, for years, is all set to create history by bringing the first-ever women’s sports bar, The “W” Sports Bar.

Three women’s sports fans, Ally Eclarin, Cassy Kopp, and Shelley Pippin, attempted such an ambitious project to provide Cleveland women’s sports fans a ‘consistent space to call home to rally with other fans and show their love of the game.’

According to Ally Eclarin, Cleveland lacked an active women’s sports team, but the passion that people across the city have for women’s sports is incomparable.

In this regard, she said,

At this exact moment, there are no active women’s sports teams in Cleveland but yet we pack the rooms and all these businesses to watch women’s sports teams when even the nearest team is multiple states away

So, they intend to promote every women’s sports team via their newly announced The “W” Sports bar.

But having said that doesn’t mean that the bar will only focus on the Women’s team; it will give equal treatment to the other professional teams of Cleveland.

In this regard, Cassy said,

We will, obviously, play every women’s sports game that’s on, but we will also play when the Guards are up or the Cavs are up; we are a Cleveland sports bar, but we still are a women’s sports bar

Ally and Cassy are the majority partners of the bar, but as Ally said, Shelley, who has a minor partnership in the bar, is the actual source of inspiration for this project.

During an exclusive talk with Cleveland.com, Ally Eclarin stated

Shelley was the beacon of light. We knew we wanted to go to Cleveland, but we wanted to do it smart with the right person, and the rest is kind of history.

Their love for Cleveland and passion for sports led them to launch the sports bar.

Well, the announcement gained a pretty good hype in the early period.

People are already excited to watch games from The “W” Sports Bar.

Gina Pordan Kelly, one of the sports enthusiasts, told News5Cleveland,

Fans should know before the end of this year if a team is coming, “should we be able to bring home this NWSL team, that The “W” Sports Bar will be one of our primary locations to see games.

Meanwhile, owners are also working to create a beautiful and comfortable ambiance in the bar for future visitors so they can enjoy the game fully.

Cassy Kopp further revealed that she and her partners are also planning to include a menu that serves ‘ beer and alcohol centered around Cleveland and Ohio—local breweries and local beers,’ as well as vegetarian and gluten-free dishes.

Likewise, they contemplate adding Brewnuts’ famed doughnuts to the W.

After all this, Cleveland’s first-ever women’s sports bar appears to be pretty interesting.
