Five-year-old missing in floodwaters near Tullamore
A five-year-old child is missing in floodwaters near Tullamore, north-west of Parkes in western NSW, police say.
The child is missing after the occupants of two vehicles became trapped in floodwaters at McGrane Way just before 8pm on Friday.
Four other people were rescued after clinging to trees to escape the floodwaters: a woman in her 20s, a man in his 30s and two children. They were taken to Dubbo Hospital for treatment.
“Police have been told that a five-year-old child from one of the vehicles has not yet been accounted for,” police said in a statement.
“The four rescued people have been taken by ambulance to Dubbo Hospital for treatment.
“The two vehicles remain submerged in floodwaters and police will remain onsite and wait until they can access the vehicles.”
Police were aided in the rescue by State Emergency Services and Rural Fire Services staff.
NSW Ambulance staffed assessed the four people rescued from the scene, a spokesperson said. The woman had some back pain, but the others were uninjured.
Nearby roads are closed and flooded, making access to McGrane Way difficult, police said.
Heavy rainfall has drenched the area around Tullamore in recent days, with some areas receiving a quarter of their annual rainfall in just one night.
