Social media influencer Gena Tew has once again captured the attention of her followers, this time by debunking rumors of her passing.

The model, who has been openly documenting her journey with AIDS, continues to make strides in her recovery, proving that she is very much alive and on the path to better health.

Recent Health Updates

On August 28, Tew shared a video discussing a recent blood test.

She expressed some concern about her late period, which had initially sparked pregnancy hopes for her and her boyfriend.

While the test results showed some irregularities, Tew reassured her followers that nothing serious had transpired.

Just a day ago, Tew posted a TikTok video featuring her boyfriend walking on the beach, showcasing a moment of normalcy and joy in her life.

Although she still relies on a wheelchair for travel, Tew’s recovery progress is evident. She has notably gained weight, a positive sign in her ongoing battle with AIDS.

The AIDS Diagnosis Journey

In a candid interview on the “Plus Talk” show, Tew opened up about her initial AIDS diagnosis.

She recalled the shock of the moment, saying,

When they told me, ‘Did you know you have AIDS?’ I’m just, kind of, like ‘what?’

The diagnosis came after a series of misdiagnoses and rapidly declining health, including severe bowel problems and loss of mobility.

Despite the challenges, Tew has shown remarkable resilience.

She credits her late sister’s prayers and the support of her social media followers for her strength.

“I’ve just had so much support on social media through it all that I’m just like, ‘I’ve gotta prove to myself and these people that I can do it and I’m gonna be fine,'” Tew stated.

Milestones In Recovery

Tew’s journey has been marked by significant milestones. In June 2023, she excitedly announced that her CD4 count had risen to 308, surpassing the critical threshold of 200.

This improvement means her condition is now classified as HIV rather than AIDS.

“That means that I am no longer being seen as [having] AIDS. I am being seen as [having] HIV. HIV! Yeah!” Tew exclaimed in a TikTok video.

Her weight has increased from a dangerous low of 65 pounds to over 100 pounds.

Additionally, Tew has made progress in her mobility, sharing videos of herself using a walking frame and participating in physiotherapy sessions.

Spreading Awareness And Hope

Throughout her journey, Tew has used her platform to educate others about HIV/AIDS.

She emphasizes the importance of medical treatment and dispels myths about natural remedies.

“You could do that stuff, but please take your medicine every day,” she advises her followers.

Dr. Laura Guay, vice president of research at the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, supports Tew’s message, stating,

“The most important thing that you can do is to take your anti-HIV drugs as directed consistently and track your VL results to get to undetectable.”

As Gena Tew continues her recovery, she remains an inspiration to many, proving that with proper treatment and a positive attitude, living with HIV is possible.
