SHIVAMOGGA: A love-struck youth was arrested by Shivamogga police here on Wednesday morning for trying to disturb communal harmony.
Ayub Khan, 28, from Sulebilu area allegedly wrote a threat letter and placed it in front of Gangaparameshwari temple in Gandhi Bazaar. A shop owner near the temple found it while closing his shop on Tuesday night. He handed it over to police.
The letter warned of communal violence breaking out during Ganesha festival. It said miscreants were plotting to kill three Hindu youths during the festival. The letter mentioned that a youth from Azad Nagar was the mastermind, and that he had shared the plan with his friends after he took ganja. Cops questioned the youth who was mentioned as the ‘mastermind’ in the letter. The youth said he had no knowledge of the letter and could not think of anyone who would have wanted to frame him.
When cops examined CCTV footage from the area, they saw Ayub placing the letter. He was picked up. Ayub admitted that he had written the letter with the intention to fix the youth who had recently got married to the woman he loved.
Shivamogga SP BM Laxmi Prasad said that Ayub, who owns a hardware shop, was allegedly in love with the girl the youth had married six months ago and wanted to get him arrested on criminal charges. Ayub has been arrested under IPC 505 (2) and (3) (disturbing communal harmony).
