Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4RR breaks cover with 400 cc four-cylinder engine that redlines at 16,000 rpm!
What’s special about the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4RR is the new 399 cc inline four-cylinder engine, which is the company’s second smallest four-pot engine, only after the Ninja ZX-25R’s 250 cc unit. The ZX-4RR looks strikingly similar to the Ninja 400 sold here in India, except that the Indian motorcycle has two lesser cylinders and slightly higher set handlebars.
The liquid-cooled DOHC, 16-valve motor on the ZX-4RR comes with ram-air duct intake, which bumps its power output up to 80 hp! The engine redlines at a massive 16,000 rpm, while the peak torque rating of 36 Nm is 1 Nm lower than the Ninja 400. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with Kawasaki Quick Shifter (KQS).

The motorcycle is built on a trellis frame that is suspended on 37 mm Showa inverted telescopic forks at the front with SFF-BP internals and spring preload adjustability, along with a fully adjustable Showa BFRC-lite monoshock at the back. It rides on a 120/70 – 17 tyre up front and a 160/60 – 17 unit at the back. The braking duties are taken care of by dual 290 mm discs at the front and a single 220 mm disc at the back with dual-channel ABS.
The ZX-4RR comes equipped with a 4.3-inch TFT instrument cluster with Smartphone Connectivity using Kawasaki’s dedicated app. Other features on offer include Assist & Slipper clutch, Kawasaki Traction Control, as well as different power modes. In United States, the new Kawasaki ZX-4RR is priced at USD 9,699, which translates to Rs 7.94 lakh in Indian currency. The 400 cc motorcycle will be launched in European markets too, however, an Indian launch is highly unlikely.
