Mumbai University student alleges varsity ‘literally refused’ to declare result, threatens legal action

A Mumbai University student has threatened legal action against the varsity for ‘delaying’ their result, in a viral Reddit thread. The anonymous student has stated that they have gotten ‘admission for masters in the states’ and they ‘desperately need the transcripts’.

The Mumbai University student’s plight caught Reddit’s attention, wherein netizens have been quick to share their stories and expert opinion about the problem. While some suggested that ‘a legal action is not a possibility’, others suggested that the complainant resort to the Digilocker app to solve their issue.

Shared a day ago, the viral Reddit post about Mumbai University reads, “Current MU student here from final year and they LITERALLY REFUSE to declare results. I already got my admission for masters in the states and I desperately need my transcripts! I am ready to take a legal action or email/send a letter to a person of authority/ any minister in-charge. I simply don’t know where to start and would appreciate guidance!”

However, Mint could not independently verify if Mumbai University has ‘literally refused’ to declare the results for the undergraduate students.

One netizen suggested, “You can personally meet the Registrar of the University to sort out the problem. Many universities do have system for priority declaration of results on payment of some fees.”.

Another quipped, “Mate I graduated last year, I got my certificate in April. Doubt you can take any legal action”.

Notably, on Thursday, Mumbai University declared result for TY BCom Semester VI, which was conducted in April 2023, following the offline mode of examination. The overall pass percentage for the exam stands at 60%.

The candidates who wrote the examination can check their result on the official website or by sending an SMS- write “MUMRESULT <space> Roll Number” and send it to 56767.  The result will contain essential information such as the candidate’s roll number, name, subject-wise marks obtained, and the corresponding grade.

Alongside the TY BCom results, the university has also declared the results for first-year MTA, second-year Applied Art, BE, MSc, and MCom.

Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais on Wednesday appointed a new Vice-Chancellor for the varsity. Dr Ravindra Dattatray Kulkarni was named Mumbai University vice-chancellor. The appointment of Kulkarni coincides with the university’s preparation of a roadmap for implementing four-year degree course in accordance with the new National Education Policy (NEP).

There are 56 departments in total, 781 affiliated colleges, 12 specialty centres, two model colleges, two main campuses, and two sub-campuses at Mumbai University. Even the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Kalyan serves as the university’s engineering college.
