On Wednesday evening Dubai-based Couture designer Rami Al Ali revealed his spring-summer 2023 collection in Paris’ x arrondissement. One of world’s best kept secrets in couture, Al Ali has been designing since 1995. This collection, an inspiration to Greek mythology is a nod to his twenty-seven years of couture know how.

In thirty pieces Al Ali’s sartorial storytelling is distinct, structured, and dreamy, perfect for the coming warmer months. The first look, a layered ruffle gown in cream with gold detailing that’s short in the front, revealing the legs, has an A-line full skirt in the back.

A signature Al Ali touch is his way of capturing details in the skirting portion of gowns. The way he’s able to fold and drape creates a modern yet sculptural technique in a dress. One gown in the collection, a column silhouette is matched with grand skirting detail in the rear. The way the designer folds the fabric creates a youthful, fun, and eye grabbing gown.

If you’ve been around Rami Al Ali, you know he takes great pride in his work. Looking at every detail of a gown before it hits the runway or is revealed in a presentation, Al Ali with hawk eyes makes sure no thread is out of place, no train is overturned, and every wrinkle has been pressed out. With shoulders back, his head held high, there is a regality and healthy pride he has for his creations. You quickly realize, this designer doesn’t create just anything. He creates quality pieces and this collection was no different.

One of the oldest fables in Greek mythology is Golden Fleece. His color palette choice of light pastels offers a dreaminess, and that coupled with artful silhouettes is the connection to Greek storytelling in the collection. “He plays with the softest shades of sky blue, mist green, lavender, champagne beige and blush pink, alongside scintillating silvers and golds,” shares the house in notes.

And his use of satins, mousseline and brocade, tulle, and organza are a part of the mythological story he’s telling. For shimmer gold and silver accenting, and beading is coupled with feathers to add shape and movement.

Known for his embellished detailing and flamboyant silhouettes, this collection is no different. The looks are feminine and captivating, making the heart and mind of many women melt, but most importantly, making them feel beautiful in whichever silhouette they would feel most comfortable in.
