Sentence reduced over Con Ange theft

A former employee of Sydney’s “porn king” has had her sentence reduced after a court quashed more than a dozen convictions related to stealing from her boss.

Neva Lozzi, 47, was initially convicted of 29 counts of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception after she made a series of payments to herself while helping to run Con Ange’s adult store empire between 2015 and 2020.

She was jailed for four years, with a non-parole period of three years, but was granted bail as she awaited her appeal.

In July, District Court Judge John Pickering quashed 14 of the convictions. He upheld 15 others, relating to $176,561.45 Lozzi used for rent at her Point Piper home, credit card payments, phone and energy bills, and a $33,000 payment to Flight Centre for travel and accommodation.

Last week, Judge Pickering re-sentenced Lozzi to 19 months and 23 days’ imprisonment, to be served in the community as an Intensive Correction Order.

Under the terms of the order, which expires in July 2024, Lozzi will be supervised by community corrections and cannot commit any further offences. She has also been ordered to perform 240 hours of community service work.

When Lozzi was initially sentenced in Downing Centre Local Court last year, her barrister had suggested an intensive correction order would be appropriate because Lozzi lived with anxiety and had people depending on her care, including young children.

Lozzi argued in the case that the payments she received were legitimate remuneration, which Ange paid to her in an unconventional way to suit his own business purposes.
