Sydney train delays across city due to urgent signal repairs
Sydney’s train network is experiencing major delays after urgent signal repairs in the city’s west halted services between some stations.
Commuters have reported being stranded at stations, where blank screens display no travel information, while others have spent hundreds of dollars on taxis to get to their destinations.
NRL fans had been urged on Saturday morning to catch publish transport to the evening clash between the Rabbitohs and the Sea Eagles at Accor Stadium in Sydney Olympic Park.
But by 5.36pm, two hours before kick-off, Sydney Trains said supporters should allow “plenty of extra travel time or consider alternate transport”.
“Major delays are being experienced due to urgent signal repairs at Homebush,” a spokesperson said on social media.
“Trains [will] continue to run late for the rest of the evening.”
It is the second major train failure in a month, after tens of thousands of peak hour commuters were stranded on the afternoon of March 8 due to a glitch in the digital trains radio system.
Services were completely halted on the T5 Cumberland line on Saturday evening, with no replacement buses available.
“As an alternative, use T1 Western & T2 Inner West and Leppington Line trains to complete your travel,” Sydney Trains advised. “Delays are expected to continue tonight.”
Limited services were running on the T1 North Shore and Western Line between Hornsby and Ashfield, with buses replacing trains between Ashfield and Lidcombe.
