Todd Zeile’s life story is as diverse as his baseball career. While his 16-year journey through the Major Leagues saw him don 11 different uniforms, it’s his life off the field that truly showcases the man behind the bat.
Zeile’s personal life has been marked by both triumphs and challenges.
A Beautiful Family
In 1989, Todd Zeile married Julianne McNamara, a celebrated U.S. Olympic gymnast whom he met while they were both students at UCLA.
McNamara had made history as the first American gymnast to earn a perfect 10.0 at the Olympics. Together, they built a family, welcoming four children into the world.
Their son Garrett, born in November 1993, and daughter Hannah, born in November 1997, would both go on to pursue careers in the entertainment industry.
Hannah, in particular, has found success as an actress, appearing as teenage Kate Pearson on the popular NBC series “This Is Us.”
No Struggle, No Life
Life threw the Zeiles a curveball when Hannah was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.
This personal challenge inspired Todd and Julianne to become actively involved in juvenile diabetes research charities, channeling their energy into a cause close to their hearts.
The family faced another test in January 1994 when the Northridge earthquake severely damaged their home in Valencia, California.
With 6-week-old Garrett in tow, the young family was forced to move in with Julianne’s parents.
As if that weren’t enough, young Garrett was then hospitalized for a week with a serious respiratory illness.
Despite these challenges, Zeile maintained his trademark calm demeanor.
His former business partner, Bill Borgsmiller, noted,
“Nothing rattles Todd. He never wavers, he’s always calm, and as you go through ups and downs, that’s a very good thing.”
A New Chapter In Life
After 25 years of marriage, Todd and Julianne’s relationship came to an end with their divorce in January 2015.
By this time, Todd had already begun to explore new horizons in the entertainment industry, producing films and TV shows.
In a surprising twist, love found Zeile again. On June 27, 2020, he married Kristin Gamboa, daughter of ex-major league coach and minor league manager Tom Gamboa.
This new chapter in his personal life coincided with his continued success in Hollywood, where he had found his footing as a producer.
Throughout his life, the MLB star has shown an ability to adapt and thrive in new environments.
Today, Zeile balances his work in entertainment with his continued involvement in baseball as an occasional commentator.
Furthermore, he remains active in charitable causes, particularly those related to juvenile diabetes.
